International Women’s Day 2024

On the occasion of the International Women’s Day which celebrates women’s success and achievements by recognising the challenges and perseverance women encounter through their journey to make a difference to their communities, MWWA proudly shines a light on one of the achievements of their President Hajjeh Faten El Dana. We would like to congratulate Mrs El Dana for running a very successful campaign titled “Elder abuse We Reject, Elder Safety We Protect” which has won the Excellence in Ethnic and Multicultural Engagement award at the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia awards in Adelaide.

This much needed and topical media campaign aimed to support ethnic and multicultural communities to better understand, prevent and respond to various forms of elder abuse which may be in the form of psychological, physical, financial and neglect. It was delivered as a six-episode radio series on 2MFM, (including interviews & talk-back presented in both Arabic & English), impactful audio-visual content including an eye-opening video production and infographics on social media translated into Arabic, Urdu and Bahasa Indonesia to promote empathy and compassion for the elderly in various communities.

This project was launched following a Royal commission into aged care services between the 8th of October 2018 and the 1st of March 2021. Thus, it was delivered in line with the goals identified by the Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC) including promoting community understanding of elder abuse, promoting the autonomy and agency of older people, achieving national consistency and safeguarding at-risk adults and improving responses.

Hajjah Faten El Dana OAM, led this successful campaign at a very challenging time of her life physically and emotionally as she was caring for her husband, the late Mr Mohammad El Dana who sadly lost his battle to cancer in March last year. She never wavered over completing the project. When asked about it, she replied: “I was delighted to instil in the heart of listeners, to love; respect; honour and protect their elderly loved ones who are in dire need to feel loved and safe in their own home or even when institutionalised. I would like to take this opportunity to particularly thank all the special guests who participated in this important project. They included family members who shared their personal experiences in caring for their elderly loved ones, and experts in Aged Care who provided valuable information to the community on how to access the various available services needed by the elderly.”

Highlighting the importance of this project, Charishma Kaliyanda, the Labor Member for Liverpool in the NSW Parliament, delivered a speech about the project and Hajjah Faten’s achievements in Parliament. She also presented hajjah Faten with a copy of her speech and said: “ I had the opportunity to recognise the achievements of someone who had contributed an extraordinary amount to our community!”

We wish Hajjeh Faten a continuous success in accomplishing her goal to help her community members to live a more safe and serene life.

بمناسبة اليوم العالمي للمرأة الذي يُحتفل فيه بنجاح المرأة وإنجازاتها من خلال الإقرار بالتحديات والمثابرة التي تواجهها المرأة خلال رحلتها لإحداث فرق في مجتمعها، تغتنم MWWA الفرصة لتسلط الضوء بفخر على أحد إنجازات رئيستها الحاجة فاتن الدنا. نود أن نهنئ الحاجة فاتن الدنا على إدارة حملة ناجحة للغاية بعنوان "لا لإساءة معاملة كبارالسن ومعا لحمايتهم، التي فازت بجائزة الإمتيازفي في المشاركة العرقية ومتعددة الثقافات من مؤسسة البث المجتمعي الأسترالية .

تهدف هذه الحملة الإعلامية التي تشتد الحاجة إليها لا سيما في أيامنا هذه إلى دعم المجتمعات العرقية والمتعددة الثقافات لفهم أشكال مختلفة من إساءة معاملة المسنين ومنعها والاستجابة لها بشكل أفضل والتي قد تكون بأشكال محتلفة، نفسية وجسدية ومالية وإهمال. تم تقديم هذه الحملة من خلال مقابلات ومنقاشات باللغتين العربية والإنجليزية. وكذلك تضمنت إنتاج فيديو معبر ورسوم بيانية على وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي مترجمة إلى العربية والأردية ولغة البهاسا الإندنوسية لتعزيز التعاطف مع المسنين في مختلف المجتمعات.

تم إطلاق هذا المشروع بعد صدور نتائج التحقيق عن اللجنة الملكية لخدمات رعاية المسنين الذي أجري في الفترة ما بين 8 أكتوبر 2018 و1 مارس 2021. ولهذا فقد تم بطريقة تتماشى مع الأهداف التي حددتها لجنة تحسين القانون الأسترالية من أجل تعزيز فهم المجتمع لمشكلة حول إساءة معاملة المسنين، وتعزيز استقلالية كبار السن وقدرتهم على التصرف، وحماية كبار السن المعرضين للخطر وتحسين القدرة على الاستجابة لحالات الإساءة.

قادت الحاجة فاتن الدنا هذه الحملة الناجحة في وقت صعب للغاية من حياتها جسديًا وعاطفيًا حيث كانت تعتني بزوجها الراحل الحاج محمد الدنا الذي توفاه الله في مارس من العام الماضي. ومع ذلك لم تتردد في استكمال المشروع. وعندما سئلت عن ذلك، أجابت: “لقد سرني أن أغرس في قلوب المستمعين لا سيما الشبيبة منهم ، المحبة، والاحترام والرغبة في تكريم وحماية أحبائهم المسنين الذين هم في حاجة ماسة إلى الشعور بالحب والأمان في منازلهم أو حتى عند إيداعهم في مؤسسات تقدم لهم الرعاية التي لا تتوفر في المنزل . وأود أن أتقدم بالشكر بشكل خاص من جميع الضيوف المميزين الذين شاركوا في هذا المشروع المهم، وكان من بينهم أفراد أُسَرٍ شاركوا تجاربهم الشخصية في رعاية أحبائهم المسنين، وكذلك خبراء في مجال رعاية المسنين الذين قدموا معلومات قيمة للمجتمع حول كيفية الوصول إلى مختلف الخدمات المتاحة التي يحتاجها كبار السن."

ولتسليط الضوء على أهمية هذا المشروع، ألقت كاريشما كالياندا، عضو حزب العمال عن ليفربول في برلمان نيو ساوث ويلز، كلمة حول المشروع وإنجازات الحاجة فاتن في المجتمع. كما قدمت للحاجة فاتن نسخة رسمية من الكلمة التي القتها وقالت: "لقد أتيحت لي الفرصة للتعرف على إنجازات شخص ساهم بنسبة متفوقة في مجتمعنا!"

نتمنى للحاجة فاتن النجاح المستمر في تحقيق هدفها لمساعدة أفراد مجتمعها على عيش حياة أكثر أمانًا وهدوءًا.
