On Saturday, 11 April 2026, in collaboration with the Cancer Council, The Muslim Women’s Welfare of Australia (MWWA) hosted an impactful and informative education session aimed at raising awareness and reducing the impact of cancer within our community.

The workshop began with a video message delivered by the state member for Liverpool , Charishma Kaliyanda, who commended the MWWA President and her team for their continued efforts to connect with the community and for organising such an important and much-needed workshop. She also encouraged women to actively participate in similar workshops, where they can gain valuable information that will greatly benefit them.

Supported by the Cancer Institute, the first session was facilitated by Mrs Kamal Hadid, Community Educator, who spoke about breast cancer screening. The second session was delivered by MWWA President, Hajjah Faten El Dana OAM, who presented on two national cancer screening programs: cervical cancer screening and bowel cancer screening. Both speakers provided valuable insights into prevention, the importance of early detection, and practical ways to support those affected. Their presentations empowered participants with the knowledge needed to promote better health and wellbeing. They also shared useful information on how to access these screening programs and encouraged attendees to contact the Council for further details or assistance.

Following the presentation on Breast , Cervical and Bowel Cancer Screening by Ms Kamal Hadid and hajjah faten El Dana OAM., the audience heard from Mrs Nazek Awad, who shared her heartfelt and emotional experience of caring for her cousin during her battle with bone cancer. In support of this message, Hajjah Faten encouraged attendees to prioritise their health, emphasising the importance of regular check-ups and participation in available national screening programs.
