MWWA Dementia and Brain Health Information Session
On Wednesday, 16 September 2026, the Muslim Women’s Welfare of Australia (MWWA), in collaboration with The University of Sydney and the Together against Dementia campaign, held an informative community education session on Dementia and Brain Health at Liverpool Community Centre.
The first part of the session prsented by Ms Aisha Qinawi, focused on how to reduce the risk of dementia and what to do when signs or symptoms are noticed in ourselves or in a loved one. It provided participants with valuable information about dementia, brain health, risk reduction and the importance of recognising possible warning signs and seeking appropriate support.
The event was very informative and well received. The audience showed a high level of interest throughout the presentation and remained actively engaged with the information being discussed. The participants’ attentiveness and involvement demonstrated the importance of providing accessible health education on dementia within the community.
The session also provided an opportunity to raise awareness, encourage discussion and help reduce some of the uncertainty surrounding dementia. Events such as this can empower community members with practical knowledge that may help them make informed decisions about their own health and the wellbeing of their families.
The audience also appreciated the valuable advice provided by the MWWA President, Sh. Faten El Dana OAM, on the importance of maintaining good brain health, adopting healthy lifestyle habits, remaining socially and mentally active, and seeking appropriate advice and support when changes in memory or behaviour are noticed. Her practical advice complemented the information presented during the session and encouraged participants to take positive steps towards protecting their health and wellbeing.
Following the educational session, attendees enjoyed a light lunch, providing an opportunity to connect and continue conversations in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
MWWA sincerely thanks The University of Sydney, Together against Dementia campaign, everyone involved in delivering the session, and all those who attended and contributed to making the event informative, engaging and successful.
The positive response from participants reinforced MWWA’s commitment to continuing to provide meaningful educational programs that promote the health, wellbeing and empowerment of women and the wider community.
In honoring the hard working women of our community, the president of the Muslim Women's Welfare of Australia , MWWA Mrs Faten El Dana OAM was pleased to present a certificate of appreciation to the distinguished media professional Mazena Naaman, as a token of thanks for her efforts in covering the activities organized by the association.
