Pathways to Higher Education & Dressmaking Essentials
On Saturday 2nd of November 2019, the Muslim Women's Welfare of Australia (MWWA) carried out the third workshop of a chain of continued beneficial workshops.
The attendees were presented with an in-depth information session from TAFE teacher, Ms Awatef Baltaji, and Student Representative Assistant Ms Sarah Baltaji, where they learnt about the pathways to higher education.
They were advised that the best way to a successful career is by attaining good education and were given an insight on how to follow this path.
The educators Awatif and Sarah also explained to the group how to choose their courses of interest and about the enrolment process.
The attendees were motivated and had all their questions about studying for various diplomas and certificate courses at TAFE answered. Some even enquired about pursuing their education at a tertiary level.
After a coffee break, the president of the MWWA, Hajji Faten El Dana OAM welcomed everyone and spoke to them about the work of MWWA and the concept behind the Life Skills Workshop which has been funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs. She also took the opportunity to invite them in attending the upcoming grand Mawlid celebration to be held on the 1st of December in Homebush Olympic Park.
Not only were the attendees motivated to come back for the remaining workshops, but they commended the work of MWWA for giving them an opportunity to gain various work skills for a better career future.
The last activity of the workshop was a hands-on, fun and interactive demonstration presented by a fashion designer, Omayma El Kheir (Omi Kay) who shared with the participants her journey to becoming a designer and what it involves. She then demonstrated the basics to sewing such as; key steps for hemming, sewing a button, ironing and much more.
Each participant received a complimentary sewing kit for which they used alongside a vast range of fabrics to follow along with the demonstration.
MWWA is delighted to have received yet more positive feedback from all the participants, and is humbled to be able to continue in providing the women of the community with such beneficial and useful educational opportunities through more future workshops.

We look forward to seeing you at our next workshop.
